Dear all – Sent Bcc
On Friday, September 9th, 2011 the Governors Generals
Office released the criteria for someone to be recognized for
their contribution to Canada. 60,000 medals to be awarded.
Here is the criteria:
Have made significant contributions to Canada or to a
particular province, territory, region or community within
Canada, or for an outstanding achievement abroad that has
brought great credit to Canada.
Be citizens or permanent resident of Canada.
Be alive on February 6th, 2012. The award can be made
posthumously, as long as the candidate was alive on that date.
INFORMATION ON THE NOMINATION PROCESS WILL BE ANNOUNCED
AT A LATER DATE.
We will be keeping an eye on the
Governors Generals web
site and as soon as the nomination forms are available we will
let you know. Also, if by chance you are aware of the
nominations forms availability, please let me know ASAP.
CORRECTION:
In several emails and in the latest edition of the TBL
(coming out shortly) I have referred to the new committee as
sponsored by Veterans Affairs Canada's (VAC) as the Veterans
Affairs Advisory Committee, (VAAC), I am in error. I now believe
the new committee is named Veterans Affairs Canada Stakeholder
Committee (VACSC). I’m apologise for misleading you. Also, in
the upcoming TBL I was uncertain of the next VACSC meeting. I
have received information (Sept 9th, 2011) that the next meeting
is October 24th, 2011 in Ottawa. Please, if you have anything
you want me to submit or report, let me know ASAP. For example,
one of the things we have submitted for the agenda is to seek
suggestions on when or where or how we (VAC) can honour and/or
commemorate those persons who have served on a United Nations
Tour. Do you have a suggestion ?
Please share this message with as many as possible.
Kindest regards,
Ron Griffis
National President
Canadian Association of Veterans in
United Nations Peacekeeping.
